Are you looking to add a unique touch to your PowerPoint presentation? One way to make your slides more engaging and dynamic is by incorporating a video inside your text. By following these simple steps, you can create eye-catching slides that will captivate your audience.
Step 1: Add Your Text
To begin, open Microsoft PowerPoint and create a new presentation or open an existing one. Start by adding a text box to your slide. Click on the “Insert” tab in the top menu and select “Text Box” from the Text group. Click and drag on the slide to create the text box, then type in the desired text.
Choose a nice wide text such as Impact.
Step 2: Add a Shape and Send to Back
Next, you’ll want to add a shape that will serve as the container for your video. Go to the “Insert” tab again and choose a rectangle from the “Shapes” group. Draw the rectangle over the text box, ensuring it covers the entire slide.
Now, you need to send the shape to the back to make the text visible again. Right-click on the shape, hover over “Order” and select “Send to Back”.
Step 3: Select Text and Shape
Hold the “Shift” key on your keyboard and click both the text box and the shape to select them both.
Step 4: Merge Shapes – Combine
With both the text box and shape selected, navigate to the “Format” tab in the top menu. Look for the “Merge Shapes” option in the Insert Shapes group. Click on it and choose “Combine” from the drop-down menu. This will merge the text and shape into one, creating a unified object for your video.
Step 5: Insert Video
To insert the video inside the text, go to the “Insert” tab and select “Video” from the Media group. Choose the video file you want to use, and click “Insert.” I chose a free video from Pixabay which I had downloaded previously.
Step 6: Playback Settings
With the video still selected, you’ll want to configure the playback settings. On the PowerPoint ribbon, you should see a “Video Format” tab. Click on it, and then navigate to the “Playback” tab within that group.
- Check the box next to “Start Automatically” to ensure the video begins playing as soon as you reach the slide during the presentation.
- Enable “Loop until Stopped” to have the video replay in a continuous loop until you navigate to the next slide or manually stop it.
Step 7: Send Video to Back
Finally, to complete the effect and have the video play within the text, right-click on the video and select “Send to Back.” Now your video should be behind the text and visible through the shape, creating a very cool visual effect.
And that’s it. Experiment with different fonts to find ones you like.
