Entry is FREE and tickets can be obtained from the TEDxOrenda eventbrite site.

Based on the success of previous teacher-led TeachMeet events at the past 2 BETT shows, and by kind arrangement with EMAP this event is part of a ‘three day teacher residency’ of evening events at the BETT Show 2010.  This is an unprecedented opportunity for educationalists to be inspired by and contribute to discussions, debates and presentations featuring speakers and topics chosen by other educationalists.

Each of the three evenings offers something different:

Wednesday 13th January – TEDxOrenda

A range of specially chosen inspirational speakers will tell their stories, all of which have some relevance to education today.

Thursday 14th January – AmplifiED

Any educationalist from nursery to University of the Third Age can instigate a roundtable discussion covering an issue of their choice. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to contribute to or instigate any discussion they wish.

Friday 15th January – TeachMeet BETT

The tried & tested groundbreaking and ever-evolving model of CPD where teachers can see and hear other teachers talk about their classroom practice.

A note about the name ‘Orenda’: All of the BETT or EDU/teaching/learning-related name suggestions I came up with were rejected by TED, and locations such as Olympia and Kensington would have been totally meaningless. The word ‘Orenda’ is found in Howard Rheingold’s excellent book ‘They have a Word for That’ and is a Huron Indian word which is the opposite of ‘fate’ in other words it well describes how we influencers are not accepting ‘the way things are’ but are innovating and leading by example. So although ‘Orenda’ may be unknown word ‘wiki’ was once when I was using it to people 6 years ago Also because the name is not location- or event-specific I am happy for anyone else to hold a TEDxOrenda in the future whenever and wherever they want – as long as they clear it with TED first.
